Abstract: Human activities have caused around 1.2°C of global warming above pre-industrial levels. Limiting global warming to below 1.5°C can significantly reduce the risks and adverse impacts from climate change. In this talk, we will unpack how road transport contributes to our warming climate, and how a warming world will influence the way we move around. A portfolio of both climate mitigation and adaptation solutions for the road transport sector will be introduced to achieve our commitment to net zero emissions in the coming decades.

Speaker bio: Lynette Cheah is Chair Professor of Sustainable Transport at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Her research develops data-driven models and tools to promote sustainable, inclusive and resilient transport. Her expertise is in transport modelling and simulation, life-cycle assessments (LCA), and urban metabolism. She is Lead Author of UNEP’s Global Environment Outlook report and UN IPCC’s Special Report on Climate Change and Cities. She obtained her Ph.D. in Engineering Systems from MIT and master’s in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.
