Abstract:

This talk provides an insider’s overview of the publishing process at Nature-branded journals, with a focus on Nature Communications. The session covers the editorial philosophy of Nature journals, criteria for manuscript selection, and practical guidance on preparing successful submissions. Key topics include what makes a paper suitable for Nature and Nature Communications, the significance of open access, the importance of transparency in authorship and data, and the latest editorial policies such as double-blind peer review and preprint support. The talk outlines the peer review process, decision-making criteria, and tips for writing effective cover letters and responses to reviewers. Attendees will also learn about best practices for data and code availability, author contribution statements, and navigating manuscript transfers between journals. By demystifying the editorial workflow and highlighting expectations, the talk aims to help researchers maximise their chances of publishing in high-impact Nature-branded journals.
