2018 Environmental Engineering (Low Carbon Environment)

Brief Introduction of Discipline Area
Founded by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), China-UK Low Carbon College (LCC) is an international collaborative educational institute in the field of low carbon. Environmental engineering (low carbon environment) is strongly supported by School of Environment Science and Engineering. In 1998, the master program of chemical engineering was adjusted into environmental engineering. In the same year, the master program of environmental science was established. In 2000, the second level discipline doctoral program of environmental science and engineering was approved. In 2003, the first level discipline doctoral program of environmental science and engineering and postdoctoral research station was approved. Currently the college has 25 professors, 17 associate professors, 4 research fellows, 5 associate research fellows, and 1 senior engineer.

Academic Objective
In the base of generally environmental knowledge, you will study core knowledge related to carbon economics, carbon finance, low carbon energy, and carbon management, to know the current development information and international research information, to develop innovative thinking, forward-looking awareness, strategic vision, and international vision. The final aim is to adapt to low carbon development, to develop high level engineering management talents.

Study Period
Students are supposed to finish their study within 2.5 years. In the first year, students study at China-UK Low Carbon College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and can apply to study at the University of Edinburgh during the second year if they meet its entry requirements. In the final half year, students are required to finish their thesis in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Credits
1. Students are required to acquire 30 credits at least, including 19 credits in GPA courses.
2. Students who are admitted to study at the University of Edinburgh in the second year should finish relevant courses as required.

Practice
Every student will be guided by academic supervisor and industry supervisor, industry supervisors with academic achievements and business practices in low carbon field will be employed, who mainly responsible for students’ internship. Students are requested to submit internship questionnaire and internship report after finishing internship in order to ensure internship quality.

Dissertation
1. If you stay in Shanghai Jiao Tong University for the second academic year, you will need to complete one dissertation and meet the requirement in School of Environmental Science and Engineering.
2. If you are chosen to study at UoE for the second academic year, you will need to complete two dissertations at UoE and SJTU separately. Your two dissertations should meet the requirements at UoE and SJTU respectively to obtain two degrees.
