Brief Introduction of Discipline Area
Founded in 1913 and beginning to recruit graduate students in 1956, this subject is the first batch of subjects authorized to confer master's and doctoral degrees. The discipline consists of seven research institutes: engineering thermophysics, turbomachinery, internal combustion engine, automotive electronics, thermal engineering, vibration and impact noise, refrigeration and cryogenics; a national key laboratory, a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education and a Ministry of Education Project Research center; The discipline currently has a national key first-level discipline of “Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics”, with Ph.D. and Master’s degree programs in the first-level subject of “Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics”, and six doctoral and master’s degree programs in two secondary disciplines. There is a "Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics" postdoctoral mobile station. The discipline has strong teaching staff, with 45 professors (including 40 doctoral supervisors) and 53 associate professors.
Academic Objective
In the base of generally environmental knowledge, you will study core knowledge related to carbon economics, carbon finance, low carbon energy, and carbon management, to know the current development information and international research information, to develop innovative thinking, forward-looking awareness, strategic vision, and international vision. The final aim is to adapt to low carbon development, to develop high level engineering management talents.
Study Period
Students are supposed to finish their study within 2.5 years. In the first year, students study at China-UK Low Carbon College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and can apply to study at the University of Edinburgh during the second year if they meet its entry requirements. In the final half year, students are required to finish their thesis in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Credits
1. Students are required to acquire 30 credits at least, including 19 credits in GPA courses.
2. Students who are admitted to study at the University of Edinburgh in the second year should finish relevant courses as required.

Period
Every student will be guided by academic supervisor and industry supervisor, industry supervisors with academic achievements and business practices in low carbon field will be employed, who mainly responsible for students’ internship. Students are requested to submit internship questionnaire and internship report after finishing internship in order to ensure internship quality.
Dissertation
1. If you stay in Shanghai Jiao Tong University for the second academic year, you will need to complete one dissertation and meet the requirement in School of Environmental Science and Engineering.
2. If you are chosen to study at UoE for the second academic year, you will need to complete two dissertations at UoE and SJTU separately. Your two dissertations should meet the requirements at UoE and SJTU respectively to obtain two degrees.
