Capacity Building Training for Implementing Carbon Peak Goals Successfully Held at LCC

General Secretary Xi Jinping made an important speech at the ninth meeting of the Central Finance and Economics Commission in March this year, emphasizing that "achieving peak carbon and carbon neutrality is a broad and profound economic and social systemic change, and we should incorporate peak carbon and carbon neutrality into the overall layout of ecological civilization construction, and put forth the vigor of grasping iron to achieve peak carbon by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060 as scheduled. target." The key to actively addressing climate change and helping the country achieve the goal of carbon neutrality is to strengthen the capacity of cadres in charge of ecological and environmental departments around the implementation of the peak target and carbon neutral vision. The training course was successfully held by National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation  and China-UK Low Carbon College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University under the guidance of  the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. 70 cadres from 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government in charge of the work of ecological environment departments (bureaus) to address climate change attended the training.

The one-week training invited experts from various research fields of carbon peak and carbon neutrality to give lectures, and the curriculum was very compact and designed with a strong focus, covering the 14th Five-Year Plan, low-carbon energy transition, carbon market construction, greenhouse gas emission accounting system, carbon capture and utilization and storage technology, climate adaptation, climate investment and financing, etc. The content covered many areas such as the 14th Five-Year Plan, low-carbon energy transition, carbon market construction, greenhouse gas emission accounting system, carbon capture, utilization and storage technology, climate adaptation, climate investment and financing. At the same time, the participants visited the site of the First and Second Communist Party Congresses to learn about the history of the Party, and went to Shanghai Hongqiao Business District to investigate the construction of a green ecological city. Through a combination of lecture, reflection, discussion, exchange, research and self-study, the cadre participants further deepened their understanding of the work of Carbon Dafeng Carbon Neutral, and also promoted exchanges between provinces and cities.
