On August 28, a delegation from the Centre for Sustainable Manufacturing at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore visited the China-UK Low Carbon College (LCC). The two sides held a thematic symposium and engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including the deepening of scientific research collaboration and the joint training of PhD students. Dr Chng Shuyun, Director of A*STAR Centre for Sustainable Manufacturing; Daren Tan Zong Loong, Director-General; Professor Geng Yong, Dean of LCC; Li Jia, Assistant to the Dean; and Professor Dong Huijuan from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Professor Geng Yong.

Professor Geng Yong extended a warm welcome to the A*STAR delegation and provided an overview of LCC. Dr Chng Shuyun outlined the key research areas and technical platforms of the Centre for Sustainable Manufacturing at A*STAR, with a particular focus on the Singapore Research Attachment Programme (SRAP). This programme offers international PhD students funding for 1-2 years of research in Singapore, providing a support platform for joint PhD training.

The two sides held in-depth discussions on topics including sustainable advanced manufacturing, circular economy, waste-to-resource conversion, and value chain resilience. A*STAR focuses on smart and sustainable advanced manufacturing and has extensive technical expertise in areas such as surface circulation machining, smart dismantling and the high-value utilization of waste; the research priorities of the two sides are highly aligned.

Through this meeting, both sides reached a consensus on cooperation. In the future, they will take the SRAP project as a platform to facilitate reciprocal visits by researchers, expand channels for two-way exchange, and further deepen practical cooperation in areas such as joint research initiatives and joint student training programmes.
