On April 11, Mr. Richard Lochhead, Minister for Business, Scottish Government, and his delegation visited the China-UK Low Carbon College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The visit was hosted by Prof. Changying Zhao, Dean of LCC.
Professor Zhao warmly welcomed the delegation and highlighted the college’s accomplishments in talent cultivation, cutting-edge research, executive education, and global collaboration. He noted that the China-UK Low Carbon College, co-established by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the University of Edinburgh, is dedicated to driving the global transition toward green and low-carbon development. “We look forward to deepening our cooperation with Scotland in areas such as clean energy and carbon neutrality technologies, accelerating the deployment of innovative solutions, and contributing meaningfully to global climate governance,” he stated.
Ms. Grace Guan, China & East Asia Regional Director of the University of Edinburgh, remarked, “The China-UK Low Carbon College is one of our most strategic partners in China. By sharing resources and leveraging complementary strengths, we are building a flagship model for UK-China low-carbon collaboration.”
Zheng Han, a dual-degree student representative at the college, shared his academic journey and growth within the Shanghai Jiao Tong University-University of Edinburgh dual-degree program. “The cross-cultural learning environment and cutting-edge research opportunities have equipped young scholars with a solid foundation to engage in green transformation efforts,” he said.
Mr. Richard Lochhead praised the college’s pivotal role in fostering green development and strengthening Scotland-China low-carbon cooperation. He noted Scotland’s leadership in offshore wind, hydrogen energy, and carbon capture—fields highly aligned with China’s “dual carbon” goals. He emphasized that “we can only achieve a difference and reduce carbon emissions through collaboration.”
Following the meeting, the delegation toured the college’s flagship laboratories to observe its latest achievements in scientific innovation and technology commercialization.
The visit strengthened the partnership between Scotland and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, paving the way for deeper collaboration in low-carbon innovation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to supporting global climate action and working together toward a greener, more sustainable future.
