Shanghai Jiao Tong University International Advisory Board visits China-UK Low Carbon College

On September 17, 2023, a delegation led by Shanghai Jiao Tong University International Advisory Board visited China-UK Low Carbon College (LCC). Former President and Chancellor of the George Washington University Professor Mark S. Wrighton , former Vice President of Nanyang Technological University and former Secretary General of the Global Alliance of Technological Universities Professor Meng Hwa Er, former Vice President of Heidelberg University Professor Dieter W. Heermann, Associate Vice President of the University of Maryland Ross Lewin, former Secretary General of the European Alliance of Technological Universities and former Vice President of KTH Royal Institute of Technology Professor Ramon A. Wyss, Zhao Changying, Dean of China-UK Low Carbon College, Vice Dean Xu Min, Vice Dean He Yiliang and Guo Liang, Deputy Director of International Affairs Division of Shanghai Jiao Tong University attended the event.

Dean Zhao Changying first gave all experts a warm welcome for their visit. He stated that this survey is a rare learning opportunity for the college, and do hope the experts can provide valuable opinions and suggestions for the future development of Low Carbon College. Subsequently, Dean Zhao introduced the situation of Low Carbon College about talent cultivation, scientific research, high-end training, international cooperation, etc. Focusing on the innovative measures and work results of the college in international talent cultivation and industry education integration. As the first low-carbon college in China, LCC integrates high-quality educational resources and concepts from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and famous universities in UK, placing emphasis on interdisciplinary research and innovative talent cultivation. LCC always devotes to providing talent and technical support for low-carbon sustainable development.

The attending experts fully affirmed the achievements of LCC in talent cultivation models, technological innovation, international cooperation,etc. And the experts mainly discussed how to achieve high-quality development of the college in the future, how to enhance its comprehensive strength, expanding global cooperation. They suggested that the college can focus on long-term goals and explore new models of talent cultivation in the future, strengthening international cooperation, introducing high-quality resources from overseas, expanding dual-degree project and joint doctoral-student programs, fully leverage the role of seed funds. Enhancing the integration of industry and education, actively explore collaborative education between schools and enterprises, and promote effective connection between the education, talent, industry, and innovation.

In his concluding remarks, Dean Zhao Changying expressed sincere gratitude to experts for the constructive opinions. Many conceptual views and suggestions provided important references for the international construction of the college. LCC will strengthen in-depth cooperation with international partners in teaching, scientific research, and other fields. We will also stimulate innovation vitality, continuously improve comprehensive strength, and promote the construction of a new pattern of education internationalization.

Before the colloquium, the international experts paid a visit to the experimental platform of LCC and learned more about latest research and results in advanced energy storage, waste resource utilization, and ultra visual waste sorting.
