On June 2, a delegation from School for Cross-faculty Studies, University of Warwick, led by its Head Jane Webb and the Director of Research Feng Mao, visited the China-UK Low Carbon College (LCC). Geng Yong, Dean of LCC, met and held discussions with the delegation. Dong Xue, Vice Dean of LCC and other related faculties also attended the meeting.

Geng Yong extended a warm welcome to the delegation, and Dong Xue provided an overview of LCC. The two sides engaged in a lively discussion on how to combine perspectives from science, engineering and technology with those from the arts and social sciences to cultivate future-oriented, multidisciplinary talents, and held in-depth talks on educational and research collaboration in the field of low-carbon sustainable development.

This meeting focused on interdisciplinary research and explored multi-level cooperation models. With broad prospects for collaboration, both parties reached a consensus on several potential areas of cooperation. The Warwick School for Cross-faculty Studies and LCC share a high degree of alignment in their research priorities, particularly in the fields of low-carbon transition, material science, smart buildings and cities, the coupling of food-energy-water systems, the application of digital twin technology, and community co-governance. In the future, both parties will strengthen in-depth collaboration on joint scientific and technological innovation projects, simultaneously expand their international networks actively. As the chairing organization of the Committee on Engineering and the Environment (CEE) of World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and in collaboration with the University of Warwick, LCC should fully leverage its close ties with international organizations to proactively participate in and drive the development of international standards, thereby creating a higher-level platform for future cooperation. Both parties also explored the feasibility of student exchange and joint training programmes.

Both parties are full of anticipation for future collaboration and agreed that, under the shared mission of tackling global climate change and promoting a green, low-carbon transition, the two institutions complement each other’s strengths and there is immense scope for cooperation. Through joint efforts, they are aiming to cultivate more versatile leaders for global sustainable development —— individuals who possess an international outlook, systematic thinking and outstanding leadership —— and will contribute their wisdom and strength to building a community with a shared future for mankind together.

This visit will help to further expand the depth and breadth of LCC’s international cooperation. Drawing on the strengths of both China and the UK, the college will continue to broaden its network of partnerships and is committed to establishing an international platform that integrates cutting-edge research, innovative education and industrial applications.
