On 13-14 May 2024, Professor Ondrej Masek from the University of Edinburgh visited China-UK Low Carbon College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Professor Changying Zhao, Dean of the Low Carbon College, warmly welcomed Professor Masek and gave an overview of the LCC focusing on graduate educaton, scientific research, industry-university cooperation and international cooperation.

Professor Masek introduced the UK Biochar Research Center, highlighting the latest advancements in biochar technology.

They discussed the possibilities of future cooperation, especially in the areas of joint research projects, joint teaching and student exchange.

On May 14, Professor Masek met with LCC academics interested in biochar research. Everyone shared their latest research in low-carbon technologies and discussed key topics in renewable energy, biomass energy conversion, and carbon reduction technologies.

During his visit, Prof. Masek also gave a presentation on "Biochar Production and Applications", discussing the integration of biomass pyrolysis into bioenergy systems and negative emission technologies as well as selected applications for biochar in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, construction, engineering, and the environment.
