On December 16, 2024, a delegation led by Charlotte Smart, Science and Innovation Consul at the British Consulate-General Shanghai, and Catherine Sinclair-Jones, East China Director of the British Council, visited the China-UK Low Carbon College (LCC) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The visit focused on exploring deeper collaboration between Chinese and UK universities in addressing climate change.
Professor Changying Zhao, Dean of the China-UK Low Carbon College, welcomed the delegation and shared the college’s achievements in teaching, research, executive training, and international cooperation.
Grace Guan, Regional Director (East Asia and China) of the University of Edinburgh, highlighted key initiatives between the University of Edinburgh and LCC.
Charlotte Smart thanked LCC for the warm reception and praised its research, innovation, and role in addressing global climate challenges. She emphasized the importance of the college’s partnership with the University of Edinburgh in promoting sustainable development.
Catherine Sinclair-Jones expressed her long-standing interest in visiting the college, highlighting its role as a key example of UK-China collaboration on climate issues.
The Science and Technology team and Climate Change, Energy and Environment Office of British Consulate-General Shanghai, along with the British Council, shared opportunities for further China-UK cooperation in low-carbon technology and climate change.
The visit concluded with a tour of the college’s teaching and research facilities, reinforcing the strong foundation for future collaboration in low-carbon and sustainable development.
