
The 6th Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) International Low-Carbon Youth Scholars Forum was successfully held both online and offline on November 17, 2025. Hosted by SJTU and organized by the China-UK Low Carbon College (LCC), the forum attracted 50 scholars from world-renowned universities and research institutions, including Harvard University, EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Argonne National Laboratory in the US, etc. Among them, twelve distinguised young scholars from diverse disciplines were invited to deliver academic presentations. They joined the faculty and students via online platforms for in-depth discussions on cutting-edge low-carbon topics.

Professor Xu Zhenming from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Professor Zhai Xiaoqiang from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Professor Huang Beijia from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Mr. Qin Hao from the Talent Recruitment Center of SJTU HR Department, Professor Geng Yong, Dean of the China-UK Low Carbon College, Ms. Guo Liang, Chief of the China-UK Low Carbon College and over twenty young faculty members of LCC attended the forum. The forum was chaired by Professor He Yiliang, Vice Dean of the China-UK Low Carbon College.
At the opening ceremony, Guo Liang delivered a welcome speech on behalf of LCC, extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the participating experts and scholars. She noted that the "International Low-Carbon Youth Scholars Forum" has become a vital platform for gathering global minds for intellectual exchange, as well as a key opportunity for LCC to recruit talent and collaboratively shape a low-carbon future. She expressed sinceren hope that aspiring young scholars are welcome to join LCC and contribute to low-carbon research and innovation practice.

He Yiliang reflected on the development history of LCC and provided a comprehensive overview of its faculty, achievements, and future plans, expressed his hope that the forum would serve as a fertile ground for stimulating collaboration and facilitating communication.
Qin Hao delivered a dedicated presentation on the talent policies of SJTU, provided a detailed interpretation of career progression paths, talent programs, as well as the remuneration and benefits system, thereby offering clear guidance for the young scholars as regards their future development.

During the forum, the young scholars shared their latest research on frontier areas such as climate change and response strategies, carbon finance and management, energy policy, resources and environmental engineering, as well as new energy and storage technologies. In the Q&A sessions, the expert panel and LCC faculties posed thoughtful questions and provided insightful commentary. The young scholars actively interacted and exchanged ideas, creating a vibrant academic atmosphere.

Geng Yong delievered the concluding remarks and gave a good appraisal of the presentations conducted by the yound scholars in attendance. He noted that the reports are insightful and innovative, fully demonstrated the scholars' forward-looking perspectives and research vitality, and provided an intellectual feast combining both academic depth and disciplinary breadth. Furthermore, he offered targeted development suggestions to the young scholars, which has provided them with valuable guidance for the future academic growth and career advancement. In closing, Geng Yong expressed his hope that all scholars would deepen their understanding of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the China-UK Low Carbon College through this forum. He encouraged them to actively join LCC, where they could leverage their strengths and realise their potential on a high-calibre research platform.

By focusing on the latest advancements in low-carbon technology and the shared goal of global green development, this forum provided an excellent platform for academic exchange among young scholars worldwide LCC will continue to adopt an open and inclusive approach, warmly invite outstanding young scholars from around the world to join us. Together, we shall contribute our wisdom and strength to advancing the green and low-carbon transition.
